During his EXECAL residency at La Becque<\/a>, Hugo Hectus<\/a> continued his work as a sculptor and writer, enhancing the environment of the space. Using his pavilion as a control tower, he created in-situ works inspired by observation of the lake, architecture and light, and conveying expectation and disappointed hope. Hugo Hectus also created a series of poems materialized by holes, the marks of light burning into certain areas of textile surfaces, concentrating sunlight. These Holed Poems were then numbered and dated in direct relation to the moment they were created. The sails, acting as an extension of the curtains inside the pavilion, were then shot outside on the terrace of his apartment.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>

\u00ab\u00a0 Perversion of the initial idea; the shadows lengthened my thoughts throughout the day without me noticing. Then comes the feeling of uncanny. When you haven't seen the slow transition take place, faced with the process of ending, everything appears grotesque.\u00a0<\/p>

<\/p>

An idea is a destructive force in power, piercing everything, even the most resistant surfaces. It can stiffen, warp the surface of the wood, dig deep cracks in the material. The work of writing is a work of sculpture, of cutting, of incision and inserting. It's a work of ideas.\u00a0<\/p>

<\/p>

I cut and I insert myself, between the MDF and the UV resin that freezes in the light. In the residence's pavilion, a stretched sail has covered the horizon and defuses the alienation of mountains. I write daily as surfaces burn in microscopic dramas, as holes silently form. And I can see through my own vague intentions.\u00a0\u00bb \u2014 Hugo Hectus<\/p><\/div>

Hugo Hectus is a French visual artist living and working in Paris, whose practice aims to deconstruct modes of communication in an attempt to outline their autonomous, subjective essence and a new sensitive language. His artistic production operates in a dual relationship: the obscure one maintained by art and literature, which he articulates under the idea of \"solid poetry\", seeking through his sculptures the appearance of an ideal language, a language of desire, populated by other cultural ghosts from the English, German, Italian and Latin languages. A language \u201cin space\u201d, frozen in matter as if it pre-existed everything, enabling him to write without describing or showing, and constructed in a lexicon specific to each \"Mottogories\" \u2013 symbolic phrases of sorts that become matter and are integrated into the sculptures themselves.<\/p><\/div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
